I love this time of year! Yeah I know it’s busy and we’d all benefit from slowing down a little. And yes, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the pressure to buy things most of us don’t need (or want!). But, there are many things to love about Christmastime. The lights. The food. The hospitality. The festive spirit of gathering and giving. Did I say the lights! Love those lights! But out of all these rich and enjoyable traditions, there is one tradition that never fails to bring me great joy - the White Horse Christmas blend. And the reason why I love it so much, is because we get to savour the best coffees we’ve roasted and enjoyed throughout year, together as a harmonious, delicious, deep spirited blend. And this year it's tasting like an Aussie Christmas, fresh and fruity with delicious caramel, strawberry and cherry sweetness ... just like Nana's Christmas Pav! Here are the three coffees that made it into the 2017 White Horse Coffee Christmas blend.
First up, we chose and amazingly clean organic coffee from Guatemala El Vergal, which is pronounced “el ve-ral”. For those of you who follow our regular media, you will know that this year we were very lucky to have an exclusive offering and be the only roaster in the world to buy this coffee. We’ve been roasting it for the past month and thoroughly enjoying its beautiful flavours and aromas.
The second coffee to make it into the 2017 Christmas Blend has been a crowd favourite at White Horse - Virgin Mountain from Papua New Guinea. This coffee is without question, the best coffee we’ve ever tasted from this region. It has a cult following with both our customers and staff so it just had to make it into our festive blend. And we’ve noticed that Papua New Guinea coffees are magical in our roaster, and Virgin Mountain is certainly offering us a lot of Christmas joy!
The third coffee to make it into our Christmas Blend this year is an incredible Heirloom coffee from Ethiopia’s Guji, Sidamo region. This is the only coffee to ever get a perfect score when espresso testing at White Horse Coffee! Meeting the producer, Samuel Demisse at MICE this year was very meaningful, and I enjoyed his coffee so much that it rekindled my love for this region. Chire is an extravagant coffee and in my humble opinion adds the perfect finishing touches to our Christmas blend.
